Wall lights without an electrician

I'm developing a new range of wall shades for 2017.  I have two sizes, both suitable for existing wall fittings or surface mounted with a switched cable. They are available in a variety of colours as appliquéd paper designs or as map shades.

Here are two examples of the tall wall shade, 25cm x 25cm, it simply hangs on the wall with a switched cable that plugs into a socket, or can be attached to a conventional wall-light fitting which has a threaded lampholder using the shade's bar-and-ring fitting.

 

They can be made-to-order in colours and designs to complement your room scheme from stitched and cut plant-fibre paper.

 

And below an example of one made using a vintage OS map (in this case Bristol), ideal for a study or student's room where it can be hung from two picture hooks above a wall socket.

The second shape is a wide, shallow design - measuring 19cm high x 36cm wide which I trialled last year. 

 

This too can be hung from the wall and used with a surface switched cable, or attached to a wired-in light fitting.  Here are two commissioned shades for two very different interiors.

 

And below is the wide wall shade made using a vintage map of Durham.

 

Introductory prices for map shades are £65 off-the-shelf and £75 made-to-order and appliquéd shades are £80 and £95 respectively.

30% off the last of my half shades

To make way for new lamps and a new website I am reducing the price of my last few half lamps.  There is only one of each design, I have shown each lamp switched on and off.  They are perfect for bedside tables, shelves, console tables and other narrow spaces.

ArtShades' Early Spring Clean

A busy month spent reviewing my business, planning the redesign of my outdated website, developing new product ranges, new ways of displaying them and deciding which lamps I will no longer make.

I've been designing and making my signature 'tricurve' shaped lamp since I started out in 1999 and it has always been popular. Over those 17 years I have had just two frame-makers create it for me, but bespoke lampshade frame-making is a dying art and I can no longer source the frame at a sensible price.  So it's with a touch of sadness that I will be discontinuing it.  No more mini-pegs and hand-stitching with metallic thread and a beading needle!

 

I've been trying the last few lamps around the house to see which ones I'll keep before putting the rest up for sale at a discounted price.

I'm rather liking the look of one tucked into a cubby hole of my office shelves.

If you own one of my curvy half lamps and have been thinking about purchasing another message me and I'll make sure you're first to know when they are photographed and in my web shop.  I cannot make any more to order as the frames are now out of stock.

 

Weavers Galllery Ledbury till 17 December

The upstairs gallery with low ceilings and oak beams lends itself very well to a mixed exhibition and it's fun to put our work together.  Here are a few photos for those of you who can't make it to Ledbury this year.

And so to my final exhibition of 2016 - the lovely group show at Weavers Gallery in Ledbury, now in our ninth year.  Each day two makers will be there to welcome you, so if you'd like to see a particular artist please email me and I'll let you know which day they will be in residence.
